Kannyu Plate (25.5cm)

Artist: Atsushi Funakushi
6,000 yen ($56.84 USD)

Atsushi Funakushi has been producing functional wheel-thrown tableware at his studio in Kasama City since 2009. A fondness for old objects and antique wares shows its influence on his vessels and objects but overall his work remains contemporary. The majority of his works is produced in shades of black, white and silver.

The random Kannyu pattern occurring due to the difference in the shrinkage of the clay and glaze is emphasized by Funakushi-san by allowing tea to be absorbed into the cracked lines of the plates. Some changes in the tone of the plate will occur with age and use.
