Faceted Ameyu Tea Bowl
Austrian born ceramist Matthias Kaiser has had a long history with Japan, having apprenticed with two Japanese master potters in Seto and Karatsu and exhibiting his work at galleries in Japan on several occasions. The inspiration from his extensive travels is evident in his pots which show influences in their forms and textures that range from Bauhaus inspired shapes to simple Korean vessels, and pots from Iran and the Indian subcontinent.
Matthias produced this faceted tea bowl from local stoneware clay he collects and refines himself in his studio. The clay has natural inclusions of iron ore that add character to the finished piece. The glaze is made from wood ash, sand and iron ore.
