Apple Ash Glaze Kougou (Incense Holder)

Kougou is a type of tea ceremony utensil. The small lidded containers are used to store the aromatic wood burned as incense during Tea Ceremony. Hasegawa-san was inspired by antique Kougou for this series of small vessels.

1967: Born in Tokyo.
1994: Completed a master's course at Tokyo University of the Arts.
1995: Apprenticed with potter Ryo Aoki.
1997: Established an independent studio and built a kiln in Tsukui District, Kanagawa Prefecture.
1998: First solo exhibition at Aoyama Torindo.
1999 to present: Producing and exhibiting ceramics in galleries across Japan.

Hasegawa employs a variety of glazes, including apple ash, pine ash and kohiki in the production of her tableware and vessels.
