Hokkaido based potter Shinpei Mawatari has been making pottery since completing his training in Kyoto and Hagi, Yamaguchi Prefecture in 2004.

Mawatari’s ceramics have a distinctive coloration and cracked textured surface that is unique on each piece. The hibi kohiki series is named for the cracked pattern (hibi).
