Toki no Hako - Kumo no Manimani

At her studio in Southern Kyoto Sonoko Matsuda crafts handmade boxes decorated with botanical motifs. Her process is time consuming but yields results that are beautifully detailed. Matsuda-san’s series of boxes she calls Toki no Hako are made with the desire that its owner will use it to store small items that they treasure.

Sonoko Matsuda
1986: Born in Fukuoka
2011: Graduated from Tama Art University, Faculty of Arts and Design Department, Glass Program.
2013: Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School of Fine Arts Master's Course Crafts Department.
2015: Completed study at Kanazawa Utatsuyama Kogei Kobo (Craft Studio)
2018: Ended work as an assistant in the Glass Laboratory at Tama Art University, Department of Ceramic, Glass and Metal Works.
Present: Producing glass works at her studio in Kyoto and exhibiting in Japan.
