Shimekazari - Fusa Megane

The Hinoe Shimekazari is a traditional New Year decoration made from rice straw and paper unique to the Okayama region and neighboring areas in the Sanyo region. Each piece is crafted by artisan Hituji Fujimoto, who carefully grows the straw from planting to harvest. The design is rooted in the traditional “megane” (eyeglasses) shape of the Okayama region, reflecting the symbolic “eyes” that foresee the future.

The Fusa Megane features tassels that resemble rain, symbolizing rainfall that nourishes the land. It represents a prayer for bountiful harvests and blessings brought by life-giving rain.
