Hato (h36cm)
Shimekazari - HATO (Dove)
The Hinoe Shimekazari is a traditional New Year decoration made from rice straw and paper unique to the Okayama region and neighboring areas in the Sanyo region. Each piece is crafted by artisan Hituji Fujimoto, who carefully grows the straw from planting to harvest. The design is rooted in the traditional “megane” (eyeglasses) shape of the Okayama region, reflecting the symbolic “eyes” that foresee the future.
The Hato (Dove) are made by layering two identical Shimenawa ropes. The two doves are an auspicious symbol representing harmony in marriage and good fortune.
