Wood-fired Tanka Tsurukubi Vase / dia 12.5cmcm x h 18cm

Potter Yoshimitsu Ishihara uses locally dug clay from the surrounding region, around his home in Fukuoka prefecture to produce his ceramic vessels. With a background in sculpting Ishihara's first concern is with shape and form, and while some work is made on a wheel, the majority of his pieces are formed by hand. Ishihara-san fires his work in a Noborigama (Kiln). The flames and natural ash from the wood-fired kiln create varied, one-of-a-kind surface textures on the vessels over the course of a long multi-day firing.

**The wood fired ceramics can vary in color from side to side. We recommend you view all the images to see both sides of the vessel.

Yoshimitsu Ishihara
After graduating from the Tama Art University Department of Sculpture, potter Yoshimitsu Ishihara went on to attend the masters program at Kyoto City University of Arts. He later returned to his hometown of Fukuoka where he built a Noborigama (wood-fired kiln) and began production of ceramic objects and tableware. Currently he exhibits both locally in Japan and at galleries overseas.
