Kashi-kiri

Designer and metal artist Yumi Nakamura hand crafts her distinctive series of nickel silver cutlery at her studio in Nara City. Nakamura uses traditional hammering techniques to shape and give a subtle texture to the surface of each piece.

Kashi-yoji are used in Japan as a tool for cutting and eating small Japanese sweets. Traditionally they are designed with a sharper point at one end for picking up the sweets, but Nakamura's design functions more as a knife for dividing sweets into manageable portions.
