Gorone Makura (Pillow)

This special limited version of the Gorone Makuara was made using fabric from Nakaden Keori, a textile maker in from Bishu, a region which has had a thriving textile industry since the Nara period. The fabric was selected by Takuya Niwa for the Zabuton cushions that he exhibited recently at London Craft Week 2023, and enough remained to produce a limited number of the small pillows. It is a patterned fabric, thicker than the thin, solid fabric normally used for the pillows.

The Gorone Makura is a small soft pillow used when taking a short nap on a sofa or bed. The interior is stuffed with high quality, sterilized buckwheat husks that have been washed and heat treated. The buckwheat husks, have a strong insect repellent effect and the large grains provide a firmness and stability that comfortably supports the head.
