Tekki Nabe (Iron Pot 33cm)
From a flat iron sheet Taiki Sugishima shapes his iron pans using traditional forging and hammering techniques. This painstaking process creates a beautiful textured surface that also serves to help prevent food from sticking to the surface of the pan while cooking.
Metal artist Taiki Sugishima completed the doctoral program in Sculpture at Hiroshima City University Graduate School of Arts in 2001. He later studied the traditional Japanese metalware craft of tankin as well as forging techniques with two craftsmen skilled in the respective skills.
Currently he produces a variety of work in different materials from cooking pots and utensils to objects, sculptural pieces, and work for architectural projects.
